Titus 2 :2-5
"The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. "
What do you think Sober means and how do you put that into practice in your own life?

The definition in the Greek is for sophroneo: be in right mind, be sober, be sober minded, soberly.
This seems to directly link from verses 2/3, where aged men are to be sober, temperate, and aged women not given to much wine.
Interesting that most translations leave it out of verse 4...
I would think that we are to be sensitive to what the Lord is telling us each personally in this department. Some people can have a little to drink and still "be in their right mind," while others cannot or do not maintain a Christian testimony when partaking in alcohol, or anything that impairs their thinking.
I would be sensitive also to verse 7-8, where what we do, others should not be able to condemn. We are ambassadors in HIS name- everything we do casts a light on Him. Do our actions lead others to Him, or do they turn their faces away?
OOh oo- check out verse 11-12!
"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;"
And 15!
"Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you."
Powerful command! That these are the Words of God, and we are instructed to teach them to younger Christians.
Ha GOOD STUFF! I am so grateful God gets me excited about what He has to say! What a fun rush!-- so what are you thinkin' Darc?
While leading a Prayer Group.. the questions came up as to what and how people were taught or not taught how to inturpet these verses and the different thoughts got me thinking... good stuff! :)
